Help with menu and "recent posts" on sidebar

    I have just discovered WordPress and have started my first blog.
    I would like to know if it is possible with the theme I am using to have all my posts grouped in categories that I am adding to my menu so the tabs are at the top and people can get to those particular posts without all of the postings also being shown on the "recent posts" on the sidebar?
    I am using the free version of WordPress. Would I have to upgrade to the Pro in order to install and modify my blog? I surely hope not because it's been years since I dealt with any kind of website stuff.LOL I do, however, want to be able to customize my blog to my liking, so would it serve me better to upgrade early, or could I make do with this free version until I get the hang of it and maybe pick another theme. Is there a theme that keeps the shown postings to a minimum or is there a way that I can do that with the theme I am currently using? I'm at a loss.

    To choose how many posts how on your page at once go to:
    Dashboard > Settings > Reading and you can pick any number you want.

    To put categories into your navigation bar go to:
    Dashboard > Appearance > Menus

    You can create a new menu, once you have named it (it doesnt matter what it is) click save and you can add your pages and categories, click save then click the Primary Menu drop down list, select the menu you've just created and click save there.

    Be aware there is no "Pro" version of WordPress. There are addons and upgrades that can be bought but unnecessary for what you're trying to achieve.

    Can you help me, too? My side bar is missing on my HOME page; however, it is present on all of my other pages. :( WhatAmberLoves.com Did I accidentally click something that removed the sidebar from my homepage; if, so, how do I restore it? Thanks!!
