hiding website while re-constructing/editing

  1. Hi,
I would like to improve and edit my website - in which I would like to 'hide' the site until it is ready again. Is there any simple way in which I can hide my page while I am working on it also leaving a message ' under construction' possibly keeping a blog open to keep past followers updated?

    Appreciate your reply,

    Best,

    Andrea

  2. If you want to temporarily hide your blog, please use privacy option so only you and logged-in members of the blog can view it: http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

Once a site is marked as private it's not possible for followers to read your blog.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

  3. Thank you for your reply - I have read about other ways of 'hiding' the content without hiding completely the website - still not sure how to do this (something about moving the site do a different folder).

I want people to still be aware of the existence of the page; and preferably for people to return to the page when it is ready - thereby having a message displayed 'coming soon' or such.

    Thanks again

  4. You can also password protect posts or pages without hiding the entire site. Though this would not prevent visitors from seeing layout changes on the site, except for the content of the protected post or page.
