Does anyone know if there is a theme that supports highlighting or showcasing an older entry? I was thinking about a current news story and I have an article that I wrote a while back that is relevant to it now. It would be nice to be able to "feature" it on the front page of my blog again, but I'm not sure if that's possible.
I know I could do it with a text widget, or just change the date on the post, but I'm not sure if those are the only ways.

Not really. Only thing that comes to mind right off is duping the post into a new one with adding a "Hey, remember when I wrote this?" header to it.
Or doing a text widgets for your highlighted posts and list them.
I've had some success highlighting older posts. I copied them onto individual pages and I did an update above the original text on each one. Then I placed a text widget in the sidebar calling attention to them. Maybe this would work for you too.
