"Hit counter" on home page.

"Hit Counter" and a search box seems to have appeared on the home page of my Web page at downeastals.org. I don't know why it did or if anything I might have done would have caused it. It looks dumb just sitting there. I did search "hit counter" but didn't find any explanation for the reason it just showed up.

The blog I need help with is downeastals.wordpress.com.

  2. Hi,

Both of those items appear to have been added as a Widget. In your dashboard (http://downeastals.wordpress.com/wp-admin), visit Appearance->Widgets. You'll see a search widget with the title of "Hit Counter".

You can click the small down arrow next to the title, then click Delete to remove it. You can also rename it if you want to keep the search box.

Please let me know if this doesn't fix things up for you!

Well, thanks, it DID remove the words "Hit Counter," but left the search box and added a Meta tag and Login prompt.

I was looking for a hit counter to place at the bottom of the home page; maybe that's the First Footer Widget Area. I'll try that.

    Thanks.

  4. Hi Michael,

With the Twenty Ten theme, those items are displayed by default when no other widgets are present. To completely remove everything from that area, without actually putting something there, add a text widget to the Primary Widget Area, leaving all of the fields blank.

You can add the Blog Stats widget to the First Footer Widget Area, yes. It'll look something like what I put up on my site (for now at least!): http://kraftbj.wordpress.com/

Please do let me know if you need anything!

I did remove everything from the area in question, thanks.

I'll work on the Blog Stats widget later. Thanks,
    Michael

Thanks, but I've decided not to add the Blog Stats widget. Our Web site with another provider had 1,538 hits from when we started counting in '08 and I had hoped to somehow keep it going. But I'll use the daily tracking figures instead.

  7. Thanks for letting us know that and best wishes with your blog.
