Homepage Not Found

  1. When I go to my homepage, I get the following message: "It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try one of the links below or a search?" My posts are still accessible, but they don't appear as they used to.

How can I get the original homepage back? Please help, ASAP!

    Thanks,
    Catharine

The blog I need help with is csotzing.wordpress.com.

  2. By default your front page displays all your posts and you have not published any posts. The 404 (page not found) error message on the front page of your blog appeared because you deleted the placeholder Hello World post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/not-found/ As soon as you publish a post, not a page it will disappear. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/

Note that we Volunteers cannot view private blogs and assist anyone with issues that we cannot s see.

On the bottom of your Admin page you will find a link to the Learn WordPress.com blogging Tutorial prepared by Staff. http://learn.wordpress.com/

  3. Thank you very much, Timethief. That said, I have published 3 posts already! (After I deleted the "Hello World" post.)

  4. Are you sure you created Posts and not Pages?

  5. Pages and Posts are completely different. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
Posts have feeds. Pages do not have feeds.

  6. Yes, thanks. I have posts, and I have pages. I checked my Dashboard, and my posts are listed as "published."

My homepage still isn't coming up. When I click on "uncategorized" posts, I get something similar to the homepage, but that's still not it!

  7. Did you attempt to set up a static front page to create website like appearance and change the settings on this page? Settings > Reading?

  8. There is only one main page for posts in a blog and all posts will display on the main blog page. There is no way to exclude posts from the main posts (blog) page. The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top.

If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.
    Choice 1 static front page
Choice 2 running page for all posts on front page
Which do you choose? It’s one or the other.
If you choose a static front page then you have to create two pages as I said above. After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

  9. Or did you attempt to create a custom menu?

Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the

appearance that we have posted to more than one page. We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the categories into the custom menu. (Note: Categories do not display until a post that is assigned to them has been published).

  11. Thanks. You wrote: "There is only one main page for posts in a blog and all posts will display on the main blog page."

The "one main page" is what's not loading anymore! That's what I want to appear, per usual...

I really appreciate your helo, timethief! I'll try to get Staff involved, and keep you posted.

  12. It's impossible to delete a home page from a blog. if you messed around with the static page designation then that could be the cause.

  13. Hi there,

I am able to view your homepage, http://csotzing.wordpress.com/. Is this problem still occurring for you?

    Regards!

  14. Hello, everyone! I have no idea why, but today my homepage is back! I'm all set now. Thanks for the help. :)
