homepage widgets on substance theme

  1. I'm rather technically challenged, so if this is an obvious question I'm sorry.

On the example of Substance there is a lovely large photo on a homepage space. I placed an image widget in the section 'homepage top right' but only a portion of the 900x400 px image I placed there is showing. How do I get a picture on the left or across the whole page?

    Thanks for any help!

The blog I need help with is nhuzovicova.wordpress.com.

  2. Hi. There's no theme called Substance here in WordPress.COM. Do you mean Structure?
    http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/05/01/introduction-to-structure/

  3. In order for that to work, I believe the only way you can do is create a new post and set that image as the "featured image" and then it'll appear in that area.

How do I get a picture on the left or across the whole page?

Please read the post at the link airodyssey posted and note these images sizes:

    Structure
Small: 440 x 240 on the home page for featured posts
Medium: 620 x 380 on the home page for latest feature post
    Large: 640 x 392 on single posts

The showcased post is the latest post from a given category; category selected in Appearance > Theme Options > “Featured Category” dropdown.

If you want an image that spans the whole page then you will have to purchase a CSS editing upgrade and take on that challenge yourself as there is no Staff support for CSS editing and precious little Volunteer support.

If you are considering purchasing the upgrade, you can go to Appearance > Edit CSS. There wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try before you buy.

If you do purchase the upgrade be sure to read this article before starting your editing > http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/

  5. Sorry, major brain freeze - I knew it was called Structure.

Thanks so much for the link airodyssey - I get it now. I'm just learning how to figure things out and sometimes it's hard to find where all the info is.

Thanks so much for your time airodyssey, mw1923, and timethief!
