Can someone tell me the difference between Go Daddy's- hosting for Linux vs. for Windows . I have a Mac computer, so does it matter which one I choose. I want to move off of wordpress.com so that I can add more features to my blog.

You want Linux - it is what the server uses and has nothing to do with your Mac - I used to see many issues with the Windows servers on WordPress.ORG which is where your questions about moving so should be addressed as they are the keepers of the software you will be using. http://wordpress.org/support/
I second auxclass's suggestion. definitely make sure you are on Linux.
