Hot Blogs Today

  1. So is "Today" actually meant to mean a week or month? Can they automate changing these blogs so they are daily?

  2. I believe today means today. They do change. They've been known to change during the day as well. My old blog has been up there a few times for short periods of time.

  3. Ok good o. What constitutes a "Hot" blog?

  4. It's based on traffic patterns, mostly.

  5. I got up there one day with about 250+ views on my blog. Of course that was many months ago and before Scooby really got into it. :)

  6. My blog was lucky enough to be picked up by the BBC website - I received 8000 hits on the first day after they posted the story.

8000k in a single day was not enough to get me into the Hot Blogs list. If that isn't enough, I'm not quite sure what is.

  7. Wow! 8k (not 8000k lol) is loads! How did you manage it?

  8. Wow! 8k (not 8000k lol) is loads! How did you manage it?

His blog got linked to from the BBC website... :)

  9. ooops. 8k, not 8million.

Either way, it's pretty reasonable traffic, but sadly not enough to get me on the hotblogs list.

  10. Blame Scooby. :)

  11. Hmm, have you checked to see whether your not privately listed. There's an option in 'options' which prevents you from being polled by search engines or appear in the rankings. I'm sure 8k in a day would get you in the hot list for at least a day. I've had much less that that and been on there.

  12. williamperry.wordpress.com is listed in the search engines.

    Google - 74
    Hotbot - 74
    MSN - 237
    Yahoo - 102

  13. ... Yes but what about williamparry.wordpress.com

I know he got linked lol but I was wondering what he wrote about.

  14. Those were your numbers. I just mispelled the machine name. Sorry about that.

You can verify that here in one shot.

  15. I was checking the so-called Hot Blogs today. And I came across this one...
    http://notmysecrets.com/

What the hell does that site have to make it a hot blog?

I really feel wordpress should rather go for some features like pagerank among others to rank the blogs. This way, we can find which blog is better. Though pagerank doesn't give an accurate picture, it is more reliable than wordpress hot blog list I guess.

  16. The criteria from the About section of the blogs of the day may be enlightening http://botd.wordpress.com/about/

  17. "What the hell does that site have to make it a hot blog?"

    Visitors. Just like the rest.

  18. What the hell does that site have to make it a hot blog?

Reason why I wanted off those lists. Nothing against you dreamnepal but I used to get alot of "you suck, who cares, what the hell is this, how is this relevant to the real issues happening in the world, etc.". What you don't like, others might.

I really feel wordpress should rather go for some features like pagerank among others to rank the blogs.

WordPress blogs usually tend to get high pageranks than other blogs because we all have links on our sidebar to WordPress.com and .org which I believe are both pagerank of 9. And this helps out all WordPress blogs.

  19. ooops. 8k, not 8million.

Either way, it's pretty reasonable traffic, but sadly not enough to get me on the hotblogs list.

8k should be enough. I've gotten pretty high with around 2k. I think you need somewhere around 10k to stay in the top ten.

Age of the post is a huge factor, as older blog posts don't count towards the top ten. I do around 3,000-4,000 hits a day but I only show up on there when something I wrote in the last 1-2 months does *very* well in one day.

  20. The numbers make her dizzy hmmmm ... she mutters and that sucks because engtech writes so well about such relevant and timely topics.

    @engtech
Never thee mind, my fair one. Ye be among my top ten beloved geek bloggers for sure, for sure. ;)

And don't we have the numbers that are the numbers that change everything. Be mindful of Mark's response.

Now suppose we all clicked on posts that were not sexually sensationalized. That would change everything, wouldn't it?

I have been having a clicking good time giving clicks to all kinds of bloggers and posts simply because they weren't about women and their lack of underwear. :|

I look for titles that aren't the least bit "racy" and click them. {OMG I'm a guerilla clicker.} ;)
