How can I get rid of the pink dotted line under every word?

  1. Every word in the text entry box has a dotted pink line under it. I must have changed a setting somehow, but have tried everything I can think of to get rid of this. No luck.

The blog I need help with is foxstudio.wordpress.com.

  2. I don't see any problems with your blog. Can you try closing your browser and doing a computer restart?

  3. The problem is in the text entry box when I'm writing a post. I've already tried that. Twice.

  4. Have you enabled any of those writing aids like grammar checker? If so, try disabling them.

  5. Not that I know of. And, in any case, according to the Help page, grammar mistakes are underlined in green, not red. And every word in the post is underlined in red.

" Misused words and spelling errors are red
    Grammar mistakes are green
    Style suggestions are blue"

  6. 'a dotted pink line '

    ' underlined in red'

    Pink or Red?

Have you run any malware scans recently? Have you added any extensions or toolbars to your browser? Have you tried another browser or computer?

  7. On my MacBook and iMac monitors they look dark pink and actually more like little squares than dots when I look really closely. So I don't really think it has to do with spelling or grammar.

No malware scans. No extensions or toolbars. My husband just tried a post on his MacBook and did not have the problem.

This showed up when I was writing a post last Monday, continued on my Friday post and now the post for tomorrow. Crazy, uh?

  8. My husband just tried a post on his MacBook and did not have the problem.

Well, what does that tell you?

  9. That the problem is in my version of WordPress, probably because of some setting that I accidentally changed. And which I would obviously like to change back to stop the underlining.

  10. If he tried to post something on the same WP page you did and didn't see the underlining on his computer, the problem is most likely in your computer somewhere, not in WP.

  11. No, sorry, he did a post via his WordPress account in his own text box. And...the word "Wordpress" is underlined the same way in this reply, both times. Which would indicate some kind of spelling related setting. And not in my computer.

  12. I checked my computer settings, too, every way I can think of.

  13. Ok, I just saw it happen in Facebook, so I think you may be right that it's not in WordPress. Looks like maybe Firefox. I will go pester them instead. Thanks to you and raincoaster for the quick responses!

  14. And...the word "Wordpress" is underlined the same way in this reply, both times. Which would indicate some kind of spelling related setting.

Well, WordPress is not a word, so yes, it gets flagged unless you add it to the dictionary.

    Looks like maybe Firefox.

Seems to be a common denominator in some of the similar problems that have shown up recently.

WordPress.com does not use text enhance or text link ads or pop-up ads or links in comments. If you are seeing those then that's a browser-ad-on issue, or in some cases, it's embedded into free games and/or toolbars downloaded from the internet. See here: Bloggers: Beware of Adware. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/09/14/bloggers-beware-of-adware/

  16. Thanks! Will check all those possibilities out. But I don't download games or toolbars, so I'll have to dig around. Could be related to the new version of Firefox, I suppose. Weird to have something like this show up in WordPress.

  17. It does not have to be a game or toolbar. It can also be a browser add-on that's causing this.

  18. The underlining has magically disappeared overnight. Go figure. Thanks for the response!

  19. I'm so happy to hear that.
