How can I register a blog that says it is already taken but has been deleted?

  1. Hi, I'm told I cannot register thesaid.wordpress.com because it already exists. However, when I type it up in the address bar, it says the site is no longer available and the user has deleted the blog.

I was wondering if there's some way to free up the blog so that I can register it?

    Thanks!
    Blog url: http://realityboredom.wordpress.com/

  2. WordPress.com does not recycle blog URLs. Once an author deletes that URL, it is gone for ever.

  3. That is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. What is the point to that?

  4. Never mind. I read the link.

I'm sure what this does though is ensure people who don't want blogs registered under their trademarks or band names to simply register and then delete the name. It also means that wordpress cashes in on custom domain names.

    What a joke.

  5. Let's say you had a blog URL xyz.wordpress.com and you were blogging about Christian issues, and the site was very popular, and then you deleted it and headed to some other place and someone came in a swooped it up and started putting up and started putting adult content on it and everyone thought it was you.

At some point, wordpress is going to have to start releasing some of the older deleted names (at least when they aren't associated with an active username), but they haven't done that yet.

Yes, that should be done. Also, it would be great if something could be done about all these dead blogs. Besides sending e-mail reminders. There are so many abandoned blogs. Each of these that could be put to better use. And I don't mean blogs where the user has just stopped blogging (because lots of reasons like sickness), but those that have no posts....at all.

Perhaps something similar to hotmail, where if you don't sign in for a certain amount of time your account becomes inactive (later deleted I assume).
