How do I add widgets that aren't on wordpress?

  1. I am wanting to add my own widgets to my page, but not sure how or if I can do this.
    Blog url: http://abbyives.wordpress.com/

  2. It depends on what you want the widget to contain. You can do a lot with a text widget.

Check out the support document on widgets

See this for somes useful codes for text widgets

And this for some third party widgets and how to make them work.

Be mindful that some widgets might have codes that cannot be used on WordPress.com. So if you are having trouble with a widget, read this :

  3. Or tell us what you want to do, and we will see how to help...

  4. I am wanting to add a shopping cart and a few other business related items. Any suggestions? I'm doing a storefront site for a barbershop as an assignment and my instructor wants me to make it more advanced. Thank you for your time and help!

You can only use a contact form http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/ and/or a PayPal donation button on a free hosted WordPress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/

There is only one advertising program called WordAds at WordPress.com and it’s for blogs on their own domains. This is the homepage for the WordAds program: http://www.wordads.co/ There you will find the application page as well as FAQs.

Aside from a blog being accepted into WordAds, no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work or products created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.com blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.com

If you do require an ecommerce site, online store, shopping cart, advertising and/or affiliate links you can hire a web host and get a free software install from http://wordpress.org Refer to > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  6. I wasn't trying to advertise or sell anything. This is just an assignment. Thank you for the info though.

  7. If you are adding things like shopping carts for a class assignments then your instructor is probably talking about using a WordPress.ORG install with your own host (see above for the differences)

  8. I think so too! I did find shopping carts, but only for wordpress.org. My instructor has never used .com before. I will inform them of this.

    Thank you
    Abby
