how do I block followers from a private blog

  1. My blog has been set to "private" for quite some time. I have authorized no followers and yet I see two listed on my stats page. I did not authorize them (it is one person) and want them removed or blocked. I know this person well and know that he is a computer expert and has hacked in and authorized himself. He confided in me that he has done this to others. Please help. I've reviewed all posts and cannot find any specific to this problem.

The blog I need help with is blackshepherd.wordpress.com.

  2. Let's assume a person has a private blog and allowed a follower. How would the blogger later block this follower or remove him/her?

  3. Hi there,

I have removed the subscribers for you. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.

  4. Thank you and "yes", there is something else you can help me with. Can you tell me if the "subscriber" has been privy to the entire blog? If so, for how long and can it be verified that he hacked his way in through my email? He once confided in me that he has the skill to do so and that he had done it to another person.

In general, I think that wordpress is lacking in clear instructions as to how to remove someone once on board whether invited or not. I don't see reference anywhere in regard to "blocking" "deleting" such "followers" "subscribers"...

    Thank you for your help.

  5. You had 2 users who were Followers of your site for over 2 years. That is, they were followers of your site and could potentially have read posts in the WordPress.com Reader before you made your site private, but neither had logged on in more than a year. I did not see any link between those 2 users, no similarity in email addresses or usernames.

If so, for how long and can it be verified that he hacked his way in through my email? He once confided in me that he has the skill to do so and that he had done it to another person.

The only way he could have done so is if he had your username or email address that is associated with the site, as well as your password. Without your password, he could not have accessed the site.

At the moment, there is no way for you to remove folowers from your site. However, once a site is made private, they can no longer see your posts in the Reader or elsewhere.

  6. Thank you very much. I appreciate your timely response and action. I did not know that this person was still attached in some way to the blog. About one year ago or so I noticed that my posts were being e-mailed to him. After I alluded to the problem on the blog itself the problem was corrected and I no longer saw the notice at the bottom of each post alerting me that the post had been e-mailed to a "subscriber". I know for certain that I never authorized anyone other than one person to whom I sent the password to the blog via snail mail.

Therefore, I hope that you will see for your own security purposes that this is a clear example of how someone illegally accesses a blog on wordpress.com. This person did know the e-mail address associated with the blog and as I said elsewhere, he once told me that he had accessed someone's MySpace account through the e-mail address. So, it seems to me that he accessed mine atleast twice and probably had full access to post that were meant to be fully private.

This person is behind both of the "followers" you now have removed. He was saavy enough to use two different e-mail accounts is my guess.

Thank you again for your help.
