How do i get a portfolio and blog combined into one site?

    Hi,
    I've had my blog for a few months now and have discovered that similar photography blogs have a portfolio and blog combined.
    eg: portfolio is the static page/opening page/what you see first. then their menu bar along the top has their About, Contact, Portfolio, Blog options.

    I've searched as far as i can to my knowledge about altering my site to this example with no luck. can anyone suggest or advise me please?
