How do I get my pages to display relevant posts

  1. Can someone please help me- I have pages such as Health, Beauty, Travel etc- how can I get the relevant posts to come up under the relevant pages. For example when I click on my Health page I want all the posts of categorised as Health to come up?
    Thanks
    Caitlyn

The blog I need help with is caitlynloves.wordpress.com.

  2. Among the most common misconceptions is that bloggers fail to understand is
    (1) there is only one page we can post to in any blog and
    (2) the static pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ they create do not automatically update.

Only the dynamic pages like Categories, Tags and Archives created by the software when we publish a post we that we have assigned Categories and Tags too will update automatically update with new posts.

By default the front page of the blog is the post that displays all posts in your blog. Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.

We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic categories pages into the custom menu.

Note that there are many common errors, misunderstandings and misconceptions when creating custom menus and you can read about them here. > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/

  3. Yes I have read all these. I understand pages are static. Are you saying there is no way that when my page is clicked on all the relevant posts will display? I know I can add posts to the pages etc through custom menus but I want readers to be able to click on my home page and be directed to all my home posts!

  4. A static Page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
    is not
    a dynamic Category Page http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-category-pages

Only the dynamic pages like Categories, Tags and Archives created by the software when we publish a post we that we have assigned Categories and Tags too will update automatically update with new posts.

  5. The static pages that will never ever update with new posts are the ones you have created. We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic categories pages into the custom menu.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-category-pages

  6. Not that no dynamic Category or Tags page has anything that can be displayed on that page until your actually publish a post with the category/tag assigned to it.

  7. Ok so on this site for example-
    http://www.rebeccajuddloves.com/

You can click on any of the pages, say beauty and all the beauty posts will come up. Are you saying I cannot do that with WordPress?
    Thanks
    Caitlyn

  8. I just had a thought!- Can I get categories to display at the top of my blog so when people click on them the relevant content is displayed?

  9. What I'm trying to convey you is
    1. delete those static page tabs as content will never automatically update on any static page like
    http://caitlynloves.wordpress.com/fashion/

    2. create a cusom menu

    3. add dynamic categories pages to the custom menu
this is what the URLs will be like (study the format):
    http://caitlynloves.wordpress.com/category/fashion/

    4. then when you publish posts with the categories assigned to them you will have the display that you want.

  10. Thank you so much! I have been trying to figure this out for a while now! Have a lovely weekend :-)

  11. You're welcome and best wishes for a lovely weekend to you too. :)
