How do I get my posts into Topics again?

  1. My posts are not showing up in topics. I realize that it is likely because I played with publication dates... But please allow me to explain.

Unsure about what I wanted to do with this blog, I had posted a bunch of old artwork and then changed the publication dates in an effort to rearrange stuff, more than once--but absolutely positively in no way trying to jump any queues. Actually, I was changing them into past dates.

It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do with this blog. I have since removed the posts of my old stuff, having decided to publish new work only.

So now, is it possible to get my posts publishing properly again?

    Thanks for your help.

The blog I need help with is graciesartstudio.wordpress.com.

  2. Have you looked at this article?

If none of those things apply to your blog, then type "modlook" into the tags box on the right, subscribe to this topic, then be patient for staff assistance.

    Note:
Changing post dates changes the urls and is not a good thing to do for SEO because once your site is indexed by Google et al that will lead to 404 error: not found. Doing so also affects the Reader. Once you stop changing post dates, you should begin to see your newest posts in the Reader.

  3. re: why changing date stamps and breaking links is a bad thing

NOTE: The WordPress.com software can detect the original date and that's where your posts will be found. That measure was put in place years ago when we had opportunists changing date stamps to keep their posts at the top of the topics pages.

  4. Thanks for answering. None of the dates on my site's current posts have been changed. And while my new posts appear in Reader, they don't show up in Topics. Is there any way to remedy this?

  6. Gotcha. Thanks again.

  7. I tagged the thread for you and you're welcome.

  8. Hi there - I think there's a simple reason why your posts aren't showing up in Topics. :-) Your site is currently hidden from search engines under Settings > Reading in your dashboard. WordPress.com follows that setting to also hide your posts from Topics. Once you change the setting back to fully public, your new posts should begin to show up.

Just let me know if you need further help.

Thanks so much for the assist. DUH ... I ought to have thought of that.

  10. Thanks Kathryn. I tried it and it worked. But it seems to me that I had that same setting in the beginning and my posts showed up in Topics anyway... which is why I didn't think that was the reason.

  11. If they had done so, it would have been a HUGE security breach. I 'm sure we would have heard of it.

  12. I just did a test and your posts should now be showing in topics. If you have any further trouble with this, just let me know!

  13. Thank you... will do!
