How do I get the software to publish my edited Home Page?

  1. Inability to Post Home Page

I have unsuccessfully tried for 5 days (2 days in July 2012 and 3 days in Jan 2013) to publish a Home Page. So I am a bit frustrated. I need help and some guidance in proceeding to get my site going.

    Background:

I purchased an upgraded Theme 1526 b/c I liked its appearance for a WordPress.com website. I have been able to create a Home Page in Preview, but when I make changes and publish, the page never updates the date. Further, only the remnants of the Theme Home Page appear on my home page. Finally, I get a "404 Error Message" on my home page.

In the process of trying to get rid of the unwanted theme text, I have lost all the original attractive formatting that originally made me pay for the upgraded theme.

Note: I followed the instructions for "Setting up a Static Front Page" and additional "Post" page.

The blog I need help with is trainmandan.wordpress.com.

  2. How much experience blogging do you have? Which blog are you talking about? http://trainmandan.wordpress.com/ is using the Titan theme.

Have you gone through http://learn.wordpress.com? Do so. And realize the Home Page is where the blog posts go, whereas Static Pages are a whole different kind of thing. The static page must be created BEFORE it can be chosen as the opening page of the website. Sounds to me like you're writing a page and then puzzled why your site doesn't open on it.

  3. Thanks for the suggestions. I am new and will read through the link. I am determined to make this site work.

I will make 2 interim comments in case you want leave more comments:

    1. As indicated in my 1st post, I upgraded to Theme 1526. I have not heard of the "Titan Theme".

    2. I did create a Static Page. I made changes to this Static Page. However, changes made through the Dashboard, for example, on 1-18-2013 did not show externally on my Home Page, just remnants of Theme 1526. They never go away, even after trying for 5 days. Further, the previous update date (7-19-2012) remains, a fact that suggests a software problem.

  4. This free hosted WordPress.com blog is wearing Titan http://trainmandan.wordpress.com/
There is no Theme 1526 theme for WordPress.com blogs. Moreover this support forum is only for those who have issues with free hosted WordPress.com blogs.

If you intend to blog here at WordPress.com on the blog linked to your username or on any WordPress.com blog then you need to know that the only themes we can use on WordPress.com blogs are found here > Appearance > Themes

You cannot build your own theme here. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we bloggers cannot install any plugins or upload any third party themes or software. Those are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

There is no upgrade that you can purchase from WordPress.com that provides FTP access, the ability to install plugins, third party themes and software into free hosted WordPress.com blogs.

  5. If you are referring to any other site that's not a blog from and being free hosted by WordPress.com, then support for your website is provided on the WordPress.ORG support forums http://wordpress.org/support/ If you don't have a username account at WordPress.org, click that link and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the correct support forums for your software.

  6. Thanks. You may have solved a mystery that has confused me these past 7 months.

    Problem:

My website (trainmandan.com) is only eligible for those themes under Appearance. Theme 1526 is only for a ".org" site.

I feel taken advantage of as I paid for a theme that was unusable on my website and has resulted in a 7 month delay in setting up my site.

    Solution:

What is the quickest way forward?

Do I just install one of the themes under Appearance and soldier on?

  7. Yes, do that, and contact the place you bought the theme from and ask for your money back. This is an everyday occurrence and any reputable company will honour your request.

  8. Thanks!!! I will download a free theme under Appearance and give it a try. I will keep this conversation open (hopefully no more than 1 or 2 days) until I am satisfied that I am "on the right road".

  9. Just to clarify, you do not download the theme. You simply apply it to your blog right on the Themes page.

  10. Thank you again for your help. I was able to add the 2012 Theme and am working with this theme. As a "newbie", I am sure that I will have other questions, but I will look first for the answers in the available resources.

You may consider this issue "resolved". However, I would appreciate answers to these 3 questions:

    1. Is there is just one available theme as a ".com" user: the 2012 WordPress Theme?

    2. The theme that I was originally "trying to work with" is still listed. No components are currently appearing on the 2012 WP Theme. Do I just ignore it?

    3. Except for the first E-Mail notifying me of a post on this Support question, I have not been able to view the contents of any of the Support E-Mails. I simply get this message:

"The contents of this message are corrupt. We cannot view this Message."

Do you think that this is a problem is at your or my end?
