How do I get this widget thing on my front page?

  1. Hey.

I am trying to create a front page that features a widget which viewers can click on to view that page.

Basically check out this website: http://www.adventurouskate.com/

See how theres a widget to the right that says "WHO IS ADVENTUROUS KATE?"

I would like that on my main page too. Any ideas what widget this is called? I am using the travel journal theme.

Also once I purchased the domain name will I have access to plug ins??

    Any help would be appreciated

The blog I need help with is whatsjoeuptonext.wordpress.com.

  2. a) That's a Text widget that includes code for an image and code for a link. If you're not familiar with coding, you can create something similar in a draft post or page (making sure you insert the image as a small thumbnail), then switch the editor to Text (=code), select all and copy, paste into a Text widget.
    b) On wordpress.com we cannot use plugins. No upgrade changes that.

  3. Hello

in terms of plug ins.. im confused.. why are they called wordpress plugins if you cant have them?

  4. These are the plugins that are installed on this multiuser WordPress.com blogging platform by Staff for all of our blogs.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/
Only Staff can install plugins and everyone they install is utilized by all free hosted WordPress.com blogs.

There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we bloggers cannot install any plugins.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

There is no upgrade you can purchase that changes anything at all stated here http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

FTP access, plugins and third party themes are available only for VIP bloggers http://vip.wordpress.com/our-services/ or for those with WordPress.ORG installs. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate. if you require plugins you hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install. http://wordpress.org/ Then you can move your content from the free hosted WordPress.com blog into the WordPress.org install. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/
