How do I make my sidebar reappear?

  1. I was updating my blog with a customized recipe index, but now my sidebar is missing. How do I make my sidebar with all of its widgets appear again?

The blog I need help with is thesheepareout.wordpress.com.

  2. Hi there,
Please consult your theme description page here http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentytwelve/
Then scroll down to "Widgets and No-sidebar Layout"

Simply remove any active widgets to the Main Sidebar area and the sidebar will disappear.

  3. Thank you for your quick response, but I don't think that is the issue. All of my posts still have the sidebar, which I want. The problem is that when I click the "Home" button on the menu then that page has no sidebar. So on that main page that everyone sees I have lost my add followers button, the recipe index I just created, etc.

  4. Go to Appearance > Widgets
Did you remove any active widgets to the Main Sidebar area?

There are conditional visibility settings on widgets. Widgets now have "visibility" settings so we can select which pages they display on. See here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/#widget-visibility

  5. My lack of experience here is showing through... :) So upon further exploration, my problem is different from what I first posted. Here's what is actually going on.

I don't know why, but my opening home page is listing all of my posts in order scrolling down the page. At the very bottom of the page my sidebar appears, but you have to scroll down through all previous posts to get to it.

I like my most recent post to display on that home page. I do not want all of my posts to scroll down that way, and I do want to see my sidebar at the top of the page.

Now that I "think" I know what is going wrong, do you have any advice? I really appreciate your help and your time.

  6. Have you changed anythign under Settings->Reading recently? What is your "Front Page Displays" set to?

  7. @hopwoodmh

At the very bottom of the page my sidebar appears, but you have to scroll down through all previous posts to get to it.

Sidebars and widgets in them do not fall to the bottom and display below posts and/or posts do not appear in sidebars unless

    (1) content has been imported into the blog

    (2) the blogger has been copying and pasting content from elsewhere, without using either icon 5 or icon 6 in Row 2 of the visual editor http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text

    (3) or the blogger has copied and pasted invalid HTML into a text widget or left an HTML tag open

After you go here and enable this > Settings > Writing
    Formatting
_ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
    "save changes"

see here for sorting this out > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2012/05/19/sidebar-at-the-bottom-and-related-issues/
