How do I Move Blog?

  1. A client of mine has two blogs at WordPress.com. We want to move them to her own domain under WordPress.org.

I expect that's not hard to do, but the problem is the incoming links to the present blogs. Can we apply 301 permanent redirects from the old WordPress.com blog pages to the new locations under her own domain? We don't want to lose the link popularity of her blogs and don't want all the incoming links to suddenly generate 404 Page Not Found errors.

  2. Yes you can accomplish the seamless transfer of visitors to the new URLs from the former URLs. Please see the support documentation entry for an offsite redirect upgrade. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/

  3. Thanks! This is perfect!

  4. You're welcome and best wishes. :)

  5. BTW this is a link to instructions for moving blog content from wordpress.com to a self hosted wordpess.org install. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
