I want to remove the search option (blue), Archives, META, Site Admin, and Log Out from the right side of my home page. I want it to look like the theme preview with just photos.

Here's how to override the default display which doesn't contain actual widgets. Place an empty text widget at the top of any sidebar, click to open, add nothing, click "save", click "lose" and that's it.
