This blog was allowed to expire some time ago and I would like to know how to go about renewing it so we can blog again. Please would someone let me know what I need to purchase and how much it's likely to cost?

The blog I need help with is oldcourseexperienceblog.com.
You need to go to the dashboard Upgrades page of that blog and buy the custom domain again, provided it is available, and also the Domain Mapping upgrade. I think it's $18 altogether for a year.
When you login go to Store on the left side of your Dashboard and follow these instructions for purchasing the domain and mapping it to your site.
