How do you activate the sticky posts & showcase page slider in the Oxygen theme?

  1. I've set the front page to static. I've set the posts to sticky, yet no slider appears on the front page. It's not what you get in the demo. I've been at this for hours and I'm pretty smart, but making my blog look like the Oxygen example is impossible. Please help! ... thanks.

The blog I need help with is volleycall.wordpress.com.

  2. It's not impossible.

Oxygen Theme Description http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/oxygen Live demo site http://oxygendemo.wordpress.com/

In Oxygen you can either have a Home page that displays your posts or a static front page ie. a Showcase template.

    Showcase page template
When you first activate Oxygen, you’ll see your posts in a traditional blog format but if you’d like to showcase your content in an online magazine-like fashion, then you can use the Showcase Page template. ...

The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. IIf you choose a static front page in order to use the Showcase template for a post slider then you have to create two pages because you will need one for your posts to display on. Settings > Reading is where you make the designation change and click “save changes”. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/#setting-up-a-static-front-page

Post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide, unless you make the post Sticky to show off in the featured slider, in which case they’re 750 pixels wide. Keep in mind: if you mark a post as Sticky but the featured image is less than 750 pixels wide, then it won’t display in the slider and will still disappear from the river of posts.
Please be aware that you cannot crop the sticky post thumbnails.

Sticky post thumbnails are 750 pixels wide in the featured slider
Regular post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide

If you don't see the page attributes module then make sure that you don't have it hidden in your screen options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/
    Modules to unhide:
Post – Likes and Shares, Format*, Categories, Tags, Excerpt, Send Trackbacks, Discussion, Comments**, Slug, Author, Revisions, Writing Helper
Page – Likes and Shares, Page Attributes, Featured Image, Discussion, Comments**, Page Revisions, Slug, Author, Revisions, Writing Helper

  3. Thanks so much. I think I've done all this several times. My head is spinning so I'm taking a break them will recheck your instructions step by step.

  4. The featured mage dimensions are critical.

  5. OK. diving back in. will check picture pixel sizes first. Confusing to find that page attributes thing. Also confounded as to static front page. So I make page two my posts page with an associated menu tag? will my posts still appear on my static front page?

  6. hmmmm! So few images are 750 wide

  7. my widest landscape orientation photos taken with a $5,000 nikon SLR are 620 at the widest. how do you get 750 wide images? this seems an impossible constraint.

  8. OXYGEN is the most frustrating theme. I've added a STATIC home page. Made it the SHOWCASE PAGE and followed all other instructions yet NO content shows on the home page. Just two grey bars that say RECENT ARTICLES and MORE ARTICLES with no way to remove them. VERY FRUSTRATING! HELP please.

  9. all of my images are well in excess of 750 pixels width and still nothing shows up on my Static Front SHOWCASE page nor do the sticky posts in slider.

  10. I am having the same problem. Did you ever figure out how to make this feature work?

  11. @jenca45: If you click his username you'll see that he did.
How do you expect to make this figure work when you haven't published any posts?

  12. (this figure > this feature)

I'm using the Featured Post option on my blog, where I have 6 posts published as "sticky posts" in a carousel across the static front page.

I'm noticing certain stories are not appearing in the carousel when I make them sticky. I went back through my archives and attached an old post to see if the issue was with WordPress or the post, and the old post is comfortably in the carousel.

What may the issue be with 2 of the latest posts I'm trying to "stick" in the carousel???

  14. The featured images on your latest posts aren't wide enough: the slider requires 750px wide images or larger.

  15. Thank you @justpi. You're right. That was the issue.

  16. "all of my images are well in excess of 750 pixels width and still nothing shows up on my Static Front SHOWCASE page nor do the sticky posts in slider."

I'm having the same problem with ONE post.

  17. Hi! i don't get this part "The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. IIf you choose a static front page in order to use the Showcase template for a post slider then you have to create two pages because you will need one for your posts to display on. Settings > Reading is where you make the designation change and click “save changes”. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/#setting-up-a-static-front-page"
    2 pages of what?

i cant get this straight either - please help!

  18. I have set up a front page as "home"
    with posts going to "blog"

i have activated 3 posts as sticky - each well wider than 750px

they dont show up on my front page. its just...empty.

also, if your front page is static, how do you get "recent posts" to show up under the showcase page slider - like everyone else does.

    please please help!
