How do you link a word within a page to another word in the same page?
-
I can’t find help on how to link a word within a page to another word in the same page. Example: I have a list of resources in alphabetic order. So that viewers don’t have to scroll down the page to find resources in the latter half of the alphabet, I’d like to just have them click on the first letter of the resource at the top of the page and they will be taken to that part of the alphabet. Thanks for your help.

Hi there!
Sure! You can accomplish this via Page Jumps:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/page-jumps/
This will allow you to click a link and instantly get moved somewhere further up or down a long page.
Let me know if you have any questions with this!

Thanks Grace. The instructions worked when I was in the text editor. When I switched to the visual editor the “a id=…” links changed to ” ” in the text editor and were no longer functional. Why would the html change when I switched to the visual editor?

Hi there,
Please note that your are adding HTML that’s why you should always stick to the Text Editor if you are adding any HTML. This will not translate when you are in the Visual Editor.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

I thought that once you entered html in the text editor and uploaded it that you would be able to return to the editor and make additional non-html entries under the visual editor. At least I have been able to do this in platforms other than wordpress.

You can, but if you accidentally make HTML changes in the Visual Editor and then switch around it can cause issues.

So getting back to my question: After uploading the html, I then went back to the visual editor to add non-html info. After adding the info, I went to the text editor to see what the html looked like. I noticed that the “a id=…” links changed to ” ” in the text editor and were no longer functional on my website. Why would the html spontaneously change?

I’m unable to reproduce your issue. I created a screencast of what I was doing to reproduce this:
As seen switching back and forth from the Text and Visual editors did not causing any issues even when I made changes in the Visual editor.
Can you show me exactly what you are doing that may be causing this?
Thanks!

Can you upload the screencast to your Media > Library page? A video would be better than an image because I wouldn’t be able to see what caused it to do that. A good program to use is Screenflow.
Cheers!

Thanks for your help, Grace. I studies your html carefully and found that my problem was a few typos in the html. I have made the corrections to my site and it is working great now! Problem solved. Thanks again!
