My theme is set up with a right side bar. When I add a gallery or slide show it displaces my sidebar. It is possible to have a gallery or slide show and still retain the sidebar set up? I am using Twenty Eleven for theme.
The blog I need help with is lynneayersbeyondthebrush.wordpress.com.
Twenty Eleven does not display a sidebar on single post pages.
An image gallery will display a set of thumbnail images attached to a particular post or page. When clicked, gallery images are displayed in a full-size carousel view. When clicked, gallery images are displayed in a full-size carousel view.
If you upload images using the Add Media button above the post/page editor, they will be attached automatically. If you want to include images that you’ve already uploaded, you’ll need to attach them to a post or page before they will appear in a gallery. http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/

A slideshow will display a set of images attached to a particular post or page. If you upload images using the Add an Image button while editing/creating the post or page, they will be attached automatically. If you upload images directly to the media library from Media -> Add New, you will need to attach them to a post or page before they will appear in a slideshow. http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/

It's not the galleries or slidehows that are at issue here. Not all themes have sidebars on every page. The Twenty Elevn theme is not coded to display sidebars on single post pages. All themes can have galleries and slideshows. They will automatically resize to fit the maximum displayed image width of the theme.
@lynneayers- timethief is correct. Twenty Eleven does not display the sidebar on single posts or pages.
However, Twenty Eleven also has a widget enabled footer, which is visible on all posts and pages.
