how i appear in google searches

  1. I could ask a million questions on this topic since I don't understand it at all. but let me start with something very basic. My site/blog is http://www.thetravelingchiropractor.com. If I do a search with "the traveling chiropractor", my user name for wordpress is the title of my listing in the results. Is there a way to change this to something more appropriate?

Also, Is there any way to receive a notification when my questions on here are responded to?

    Thank you

The blog I need help with is thetravelingchiropractor.com.

  2. my user name for wordpress is the title of my listing in the results. Is there a way to change this to something more appropriate?

Yes, Go to Settings > General and add a title. Currently your blog has no title. Since you are using a custom header you need to 'hide text' in the Appearance > Custom Header options.

Is there any way to receive a notification when my questions on here are responded to?

No, but you can click your username and see all threads you have commented on or started and then check the thread for recent replies. Or you can subscribe to the RSS feed of this topic, see right column.

Dashboard > Settings > General Settings

Write the name you want where it says Blog Title. Click Save Changes at the bottom. Then go to where your custom header is and hide the title. Then the next time search engines update you, it should show your new name. I don't know if it will still show you as the first listing on Google or not. I have my blog title as my name which is completely different than my username name. But my blog doesn't come up on Google as far as I can tell. My name on Google shows my Myspace page as its first listing.

To the right it shows the link to the RSS feed to this topic. I've never used it though.

Oops, you already posted.. lol ^^

  5. Thank you so much!!

Also, I was trying to read up on meta tags and keywords but it's a little confusing. I would like to associate a few key words with my site such as my name, my services, the areas I service and my specialties so that people can locate my site this way. Is there an easy way to do this? Thanks again!

  6. There is no way to add meta tags in wordpress.com. Besides, Google no longer uses them for search rankings
    http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2009/09/google-does-not-use-keywords-meta-tag.html

  7. Ok then is there anyway to associated certain words or terms with my website? For example...I operate a mobile chiropractic business in La Jolla, Ca. But if I do a search for "mobile chiropractic la jolla" I don't even show up while other "non-mobile" chiropractors in la jolla do. Any advice?

  8. If "mobile chiropractic la jolla" is what you want to be found for (or whatever other keywords), then that should be (in) the title of all your pages. It should appear frequently in the content on you pages and it should be in a text widget in your sidebar.

Maybe where you go to change the blog title in your General Settings, you can write a sentence with those words where it says Tagline. It will be hidden in your custom header like the blog title. But depending on whatever terms someone looks for in Google, the tagline will show in Google in certain cases. My tagline shows in Google depending on what words I search for.

Also do as husdal said and write something in a text widget with those words included in it. The words have got to be somewhere on your site for the bots to find. Maybe also edit your custom header file name to include those words.

  10. Blog more, and use those words frequently in your post titles, in your first sentences, and in the metadata on your uploaded pictures (eg alt text, file name, etc). And link promiscuously to sites using the words La Jolla (link to City Hall, for instance) etc. They'll like you and might link back. Best way to get Googlejuice is to give it away, in the form of links, to small websites who will check their stats and notice it and perhaps reciprocate.

  11. Thanks for the help!

  12. Hey, my blog gets roughly 18,000 hits per day, mainly because its awesome. Also I have sections/posts in there explaining how to generate blog hits and increase visibility on search engines.

  13. You sure wouldn't want to get a precious blog like that suspended for spamming, would you now?
