How long until we have to pay...

  1. To block the adverts from showing on our blogs?

I notice that the Admin panels have now got adverts along the top and bottom (at times), which I lol'd at. Slight sell out there WordPress. But it's only a matter of time before we're asked to pay an anual fee to keep them from showing on our blogs.

Maybe we won't have an option to get rid of them, maybe they'll pop up automatically. Who knows.

I personally would pay anything upto 15/20 dollars to keep my blog advert free, so there you go WordPress, an idea for you guys :D

The blog I need help with is theballwinner.com.

  2. The admin panel has the small "Upgrade to Pro" etc on it - probably they will be there forever to try and sell you an upgrade - your blog DOES already have ads on it unless you pay $ 30 / year to keep the ads off your blog - that is how you get a "free" blog - it is in the Terms of Service that you probably did not read but agreed to - you just don't see the standard ads when you are logged in and visit your blog

  3. To be honest, even when I've viewed my blog from other IP's etc, I've never seen an add on my blog? Other than of course, the wordpress and theme mention at the bottom. If there's an add on my blog, where is it dude?

  4. WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read features page, or advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all. The only way to get rid of all advertising on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs is to purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.

  5. Not all blogs have ads on them to start with. My previous blog didn't until I reached the 50 followers mark, and then they started appearing. But eventually you will get ads on your blog. I don't know where they put them now (I paid for the no-ads upgrade for my current blog here as soon as I opened it to the public and also for my art site that I have here) but in the past they've put ads between the bottom of a post and above the comments. I gather some people are also seeing video ads.

And yes, the 'upgrade to pro' will probably always be there. It's a pain but after a while you stop noticing it so much.

If you want to get rid of ads - when they start showing on your blog, or before - you'll need the upgrade. The alternative is to self-host your blog and just use the free wordpress.org software. (It's different from here).
