It's a two fold question. Ffirst, how many visitors/page views should a blog have before ads are placed on it? And also, when is it OK to approach potential advertisers so that they don't laugh in one's face?
I wanted to register for Google Analytics for some benchmarking, read a relevant thread, oh well. Is there any statistics available to compare numbers?

Well, I am now.
It's probably the number one reason people leave and go to WordPress.org blogs, but very few of them understand the numbers, ie the cost of hosting vs the possible income from ads. Almost all lose money.
Is there a good resource for learning about the numbers?
No blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work or products created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.COM blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM

the "no" was really all I needed. I am a fairly new blogger and just needed clarification as it wasn't clear to me. there really was no need for your reply raincoaster, but do what you gotta do I guess. and if this wasn't directed at me, I apologize.

raincoaster, you make alot of assumptions. I did not SEE the answer to my specific question so that's why I asked. I don't know everything there is to know about blogging and didn't realize the answer was in a link until you pointed it out. and you certainly didn't need to relink it, making it appear that I'm an idiot or something. when you mentioned it, it was then that I saw the link, never realizing that my answer was within it. YOU obviously knew the answer was in there, I did not. and perhaps others don't realize that as well.
I thought this forum was to "help" other bloggers. I don't think I am going to bother now if this is the way I'm going to get treated. besides that, the answer was already given and you just felt like making me look like an idiot. that is the way it appears to me, the idiot, innocent, new blogger. go find something else to do. Please.
I'm not sure what you mean by "volunteer" raincoaster, but if you find it time consuming to take part in an interaction based on helping people to clarify issues, I suggest you do not spend your free time doing so. There was no need for the harsh response you made. You should know that reading through information on link after link can be confusing and time consuming. That is why these fora are set up.
The actual site that is cited uses ambiguous terms such as "most" and "may." This can be confusing, and this is a forum for people to ask for clarification.
When you answer in such negative terms, it discourages people from asking questions. I thought Timetheif's response was diplomatic and informational.
Please do not "volunteer" if you do not have the time and disposition to be positive and foster positive communication.
