You upload a PDF basically just like you do an image, http://en.support.wordpress.com/uploading-documents/ , and when you insert it into the post, a link to the PDF file will appear wherever you had the cursor within the post or page. The PDF cannot be displayed in the post though unless you use the Scribd service: http://en.support.wordpress.com/scribd/ .

@natvermehta - the Scribd service is very good. It's easy to use the short codes and your viewers can read your short stories without leaving your blog.
