I need to change my web address from dahliasart.wordpress.com to angelsart.wordpress.com. I went through the steps on my profile to try to change it, but it's not working. On my profile it shows my web address url as "http://angelsart.wordpress.com", but in the url bar on my internet screen its still "http://dahliasart.wordpress.com
The blog I need help with is dahliasart.wordpress.com.

I'm sorry but we Volunteers don't have an answer to this question.
The good news is you can purchase your own domain name and domain mapping upgrade. Then it does matter what the underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain URL is that you are mapping from to your new domain.
P.S. I flagged this thread for Staff attention. Please be patient while waiting for them to get to you.
I was trying to upgrade my free site to a paid domain site which was available and am having a real tough time. Very disappointed that I need to wait until the 29th to get any help or feed back . I had a few days off and was really looking forward to working on my site. I may need to go to another blog site. I applied for the domain, put it on my charge card, and the domain name had extra letters in it that should not be there. So with out a support line, and no help, I didn't want to be stuck with it. The 48 hours to get a refund would be way late after the 29th. I canceled for my refund, tried again and cant get the new domain to go through even though it's available... : (

I must be doing something wrong. I thought I needed to agree to the terms before it would proceed but there was nothing to check. All I want to do is get my new site up and running... HELP : )

I did get my new site and domain name purchased : ) I'm not sure if I did all I needed to do to redirect to my domain site from my free site. When the new site and correct domain came up I checked it as my primary site, but it had a question box below as to what I wanted to do to make sure all my free site info was directed to it. Do I need to check anything there? It said if? If I type in my free site address it brings up the old site with the new domain, is that all I need to do until it gets in the system? If I type in the new domain into the Google browser it won't come up.. I'm getting there just need your advice as to if I need to do anything with that mapping. I purchased the $99.00 bundle so all that was included..

Hello, I want to change my domain name as well. I've been trying to do this since I first got my paid domain name nearly three weeks ago, and the option is still not working. I'm getting very frustrated with this as I've contacted support before and they've said they don't know when the option will be back up again. I'm not paying money so I can't use the domain name I want for half the time!
Please let me know how I can go about changing the domain name. I haven't been able to do anything because I don't want to use my current domain. Like I said, it's been three weeks, this is getting ridiculous.

You have been in contact with Staff. You have answered your own question. We cannot use a feature or function that is not available.
While it's true that we cannot use a function that has been temporarily disabled while Staff work on it and is not available to us, there is an alternative that you can use immediately. I understand your frustration, to be honest with you, I'm still trying to figure out what I'm doing.. timetheif has been a great help to me. I had a free site and changed it to a domain name and still confused if I need to do anything else to make sure it is being mapped correctly from my free site. I spent so much time as I'm sure you do, just reading page after page of how to's and lost half the time. When I type my free site into Google search it comes up and showing my paid domain as I requested, so not sure if when you purchase a domain name, if it just redirects it to your new site? Or how long it takes the search engines to bring up your new site, if they do. I would like to be more help, with staff out were like the blind leading the blind. Any advise from me I don't want to lead you in the wrong direction.. I wish I could help more. again, timetheif has been a great help to me. I'm just running plastic and going through the prompts : )
PS: I found going through some of the post helps answer some of your questions from others having some of the same issues..

No.
Currently you have single Welcome page. After you produce enough content on a regular basis and it is indexed by search engines like Google the URLs for your posts will appear in the Search Engine Pages results (SERPS).
Note: Pages and Posts are different.
Verify your blog ownership with the major search engines.
Use the step by step learn wordpress.com tutorial and start creating content -- lots of content.

I don't want to purchase a domain mapping upgrade, I've already purchased a domain. Why on Earth would I spend more money for something that I shouldn't need to spend money for?
WordPress can't just have a function remain unavailable for weeks at a time, especially since they say they don't know when it will be available again. That's not a response, that's just saying, "hey, we know you paid for you domain, but sorry, you can't use one of the main features for it and we have no idea when you will be able to use that feature. It could take another month, so you've just lost that month plus the three weeks you've already lost, but tough luck."
All I'm asking is: maybe you don't know the exact date it will be available again, but can you please tell me approximately? I would like to cancel my domain if it really is going to take another three weeks. As much as I want to stay with wordpress, I just don't have that kind of time.
Please tell me if you know when the option will be available again.

I've been going through post after post as well, like you said, but since the option to change my domain name just isn't available at this time, there's very little I can do. It's really frustrating, I've already lost a month and I've paid for a year so that's money lost basically.

I was working on my Blog adding pages and by accident deleted my home Static page? Posts and pages are different. What happened is you deleted the placeholder "Hello World post. Not to worry, because when you actually publish a post that 404 (page not found) error message will disappear.
Please read these very carefully:

There is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page. When you first get your blog that is the front page of the blog. If you do not want the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page for your site, and also create a “blog” page for your posts to display on.
create 2 pages > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
assign one as a static page & one as a blog page for post to display on > Settings > reading http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

I want to change my blog address from what it is now (amusperspective) to something else. So, for example, it is currently amusperspective.com, I want to change that to something completely different, like myblog.com. It's the change blog address option that it says is unavailable, and that's what I've been asking about. I'm not having trouble with mapping like you said, that's not what I'm asking about. I'm asking about the option to change my name/address completely, which it said I could do when I signed up.

I am having the same problem as you, amusperspective. Right now my domain is
"atasteoftoronto.com" and I want to change it to something completely different. This is for a school assignment, and I'm supposed to have my blog up and going already.
Does anyone know when the problem will be fixed? I feel like I wasted $17.
The Change URL tool is used to change [blog].wordpress.com to [something-else].wordpress.com
This tool is currently down for improvements, but should be back in a few days.
Registered domains, like example.com, can't be changed by law. They can only be canceled and refunded within 48 hours of purchase. This is all mentioned during the purchase.
amusperspective and atasteoftoronto, you both purchased your domains several days ago, so they cannot be canceled or refunded.
I don't remember being told this when I bought my .com domain. I was told I would have 48 hours to cancel it, but not that I wouldn't be able to change it later.
So basically I just threw away $25?
If I had known I couldn't change it, I would have cancelled it within 48 hours. Every time I tried changing my URL, it said that the option is currently not available. If it had been clear that I couldn't change my URL, I would have cancelled it instead of waiting around for the option to become available. I expect more when I pay for a service.
