How to check if username exists from a desktop application?

    Howdy,

    I'm developing a small desktop application in Python (I'm learning it) and I'd like to know if it is possible to check if a username/blogname exists (both actually). It will be very hard for me to implement a parser that tries to read JavaScript on the wordpress.com page and see if it exists, so I was wondering if there is any other way around it?

    We actually don't publicly offer this type of access. What is the application for?

    Thanks for replying. Like I said, I'm just learning Python and wanted to code a simple application that checks if blog name exists and then prints EXISTS or if it doesn't, prints FREE. Nothing more, nothing less.
