How to count comments and sort by poster--for educators

I am using my blog to support teaching college English courses. I do several posts per week and require the students to make a specific number of comments by a specific date. I have been using the WP dashboard to count comments, which doesn't work too well--takes too long. I want a plugin or something that will allow me to look at several weeks worth of comments and sort by post, commenter, and date--basically to have different views of the data, like a report. I also would like to start connecting with other English educators who use WP for college-level courses to exchange ideas.

I tried looking through the forums for an answer to this but not even sure really how to search for this sort of question.

The blog I need help with is stewartenglish.wordpress.com.

This support forum is only for those with free blogs from and being free hosted by WordPress.com. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and we cannot install individual plugins into them Those found on the internet are for wordpress.ORG installs which run on different software.

If you wish to have complete control over a blog, the ability to upload themes and plugins, and to edit themes and templates then your option is to hire a web host and get a free software install from WordPress.ORG and self host it.

  3. Right, I should know this. I do have a WP site hosted on DreamHost, so I guess I need to post this same question to the wordpress.org forums...derrrr I'm still a little confused about the differences but I guess it makes sense that you can't do plugins on wordpress.com...

  4. Hi there,
This explains the all of the differences > WordPress.com vs WordPress.org
