How to custom design my blog minus the headache and hefty price tag?

  1. Hi there

I'm trying to customise my blog, I've checked out how to do it a couple of times. Honestly it is strenous and does not come cheap. I was wondering if there isn't any other free themes that have option of home, video, content, other ?

Ideally I would like to keep the same them I have and have those options coz now all I do is mash everything onto the home page.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Regards,

    Loyiso

The blog I need help with is loyzar.wordpress.com.

  2. What you can do in any theme is have a custom menu with category pages for your categories (home, video, content, other). You can then add the appropriate categories to each post, and each menu tab will display the appropriate posts.

  3. Hi Tandava 108

Thank you so much for the prompt response.

Are you sure the custom menu with category pages is available in ANY theme?

I ask because I'm using the Matala theme and I'm on the customize page and it's only giving me the option to change colours, fonts, BG image, front and site title.

Nothing about category pages. Does this mean I must change the theme completely ?

If so, which or what are the other themes that support these category pages?

I would prefer something different, artistic and as my sister says 'phsycadellic' :) .

    I'm grateful for your response.

    Please share your thoughts.

    Love,

    LoyZaR

  4. LoyZaR,
Apologies, you are right - I assumed that because I had used custom menus on several themes it is available on all. The Matala theme is one of the 48 themes (out of 264) that doesn't support custom menus!

You can see which ones do by going to Appearance->Themes and clicking a link "Feature Filter" that is beside the search box. If you then check the box "custom menus" (and anything else you need from a theme) and then press the "apply filter" button. This will show all the themes that do support custom menus.

    I hope this helps

  5. Hi there

Thank you so much for your patience.

I tried it out ... most require a fee to upgrade... am I asking for too much if I want one that is free?

    Please help... :(

  6. LoyZaR,
Only the themes with the orange "Premium" underneath charge, and this is well under half of them. The "trending" sort order shows more premium themes on the earlier pages but there are a lot of good free themes there.

  7. Custom menus are possible on all free themes that have a top menu, and this includes Matala.
For details on custom menus see this post of mine:

  8. Thanks justpi that's interesting. I did not see it in the theme description
