How to develop a web presence??

  1. I am about ready to launch my site for my business. Although I plan to advertise locally, I would like to learn how to use this site better to promote my business. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to develop a web presence from step one. I want to understand about tags and search engine placement, all the good stuff...lol. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

The blog I need help with is thetravelingchiropractor.wordpress.com.

  2. Since you're asking on WordPress.com:

Start a blog. Not a brochure - you can do that on your main web site. Not one of those lame self-promoting I-am-a-guru things either. A real blog that real people might actually want to read.

That will do more for your web presence than any SEO "expert" ever could.

    Examples:

http://www.englishcut.com/ (first place in Google for "saville row taylor" - not because of SEO tricks, but because he writes a fascinating blog)

    http://www.joemcnally.com/blog/

    http://strobist.blogspot.com/

  3. I'm mortified you left me off that list. You'll pay...

Also: link to OTHER blogs. Not websites: blogs. Blogs where people might actually read their own stats, see you linked to them, and check you out. If your suppliers have blogs, link to them and talk about them. Tell people why you do business with them. If your clients have blogs, link to and talk about them; they love that. And they will link back to you if they're savvy, and that will raise your profile.

The internet is entirely give to get. Give links and exposure to get links and exposure.

Set up accounts at social networks.

Does adding blogs to blogroll show a link to them, or does it have to be links in the text?

  6. Nobody clicks on blogroll links anymore. Nobody even looks at sidebars; that's the effect of ads in sidebars.

Link in the actual POSTS. If you add someone to the blogroll, make a post about it and link to them from the post too.

  7. Thank you for that suggestion, raincoaster.

I will put links in my blog from now on.
