How to do trackbacks

  1. I'm a newbie. I can't seem to get trackbacks to show up on other blogs. How does this work?

  2. Example: You are "blog A"

The blog you want to TB is "Blog B."

On Blog B is the TB URL. It may be located either on the index page or more likely on the comments page and listed as "Trackback this entry," or similar verbage.

Place this url in the trackback box located on your write/edit post page. when you publish the entry it will automatically send the TB.

A couple notes on TB etiquette:

IT is generally accepted that you should also place a link within your article text a link to the blog your sending the trackback to. I.E. the permalinked (url) title of blog B's post. There are some purists that will delete your trackback if not inclused.

You can use this page to test your TB and pingback functions. The P-word is "TT" and login is "tester" as indicated at the upper right of the page.

Also keep in mind your TB's may not be showing up because they have hit a moderation que and have not been approved by the author as yet.

  3. Marc, Thanks. I think I have it.

But would you say the following in a different way. I can't figure it out. Sorry to sound dense.

"IT is generally accepted that you should also place a link within your article text a link to the blog your sending the trackback to. I.E. the permalinked (url) title of blog B's post. There are some purists that will delete your trackback if not inclused."

If you mean I should clearly reference the other blogs identity and title of article with a hyperlink, then I did get it.

  4. You got it.

    Example:

    Blog "A"

This is the blog post title

Sale laoreet iudicabit sit eu, his porro utamur dolorem te. No mel nostrud vituperata definitionem.

Kimi, author of "Blog B" also has posted a related article.

Somewhere within that last sentence you would link to "Blog B's" url of that post. It could be "Kimi" or "has posted" would work also.
