The themes.wordpress.com site is to showcase the themes that are available to users here at wordpress.COM. They have been modified from the original and are problematic when trying to use them on self-hosted blogs.
Most of the themes here have self-hosted equivalents (since those are where the ones originate from. Search for the theme name you want to use over at http://wordpress.ORG/extend/themes/ . If you don't find it there, then do a google search for
themename wordpress theme
and you will likely find the theme you are looking for. There are some themes here that are now no longer supported by the original theme author, so there could be some that don't exist anymore.
