How to install themes/wordpress

  1. Hi there,
Could anybody help me with installing themes on wordpress? I've gone through the 'Appearance' button, ok, but as far as finding the 'install themes' button I'm at a loss. Does it exist? According to another site it apparently does. Ok, please help,
    JJ

The blog I need help with is johnjagerjj.wordpress.com.

  2. The blog linked to your username is a free hosted WordPress.com blog. We do not have FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we not able to upload any third party themes.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

The only themes you can use on a free hosted WordPress.com blog are those found here > Appearance > Themes and showcased here > http://wordpress.com/themes/

There is no upgrade you can purchase that changes anything at all stated clearly here > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you want to use any third party theme or build your own theme then don't waste any time here at all. Purchase web hosting http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install. http://wordpress.org/ Then move your .wordpress.com blog content into it http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/

  3. If you are content with remaining at wordpress.com where you can only use these themes and no others http://wordpress.com/themes/ then you can change themes as often as you wish to.

If you want to change themes on a free hosted WordPress.com blog you must be logged in under the exact same username that registered the blog and who is the Admin of the blog. Note that no content is ever lost when changing themes.

Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes
browse themes until you find one you like and click "activate"
or type in the name of the theme you want to use and
click the "activate" link when it appears

After you change your theme all you need to do is go here Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets > Inactive Widgets and re-install them where you want them to appear. The widget contents and settings will be the same as they were prior to changing themes.

  4. Thanks alot for the info.
The net is something else when your new to it, as far as websites, and so on go. Well one can only try. Thanks again, it's appreciated!
