How to link to a photo from a file name and not a thumbnail?

1. How can I get an image to behave like the other kinds of media files, where it just displays the document's name as a link to view or download it, instead of a thumbnail of the image?

The blog I need help with is westondatabase.wordpress.com.

2. Get the link to the image and then use this guide for creating links in posts and pages:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/
This is the general link model:
Highlighted anchor text here

Enter your anchor text you want to link to first.
Then use your mouse to highlight that anchor text.
Next click the chain icon in the editor and proceed to create the link.
