How to position featured image in post (related to Top post & Pages widget)

  1. Hello there.

    I use the "Image List" option to display my Top Posts & Pages widget (I use 2, named: "Most Read" and "Most Liked"). I would like to select which image to show in the widget for each post/page, and have figured that I can use the "featured image" function to set that for each post/page.

    However, when I select a "featured image", then it is placed in the top of that post. So it is either displayed twice in the post, or I have to remove it from its original position and just display it in the top.

    I want all images to all stay in place, because they are often illustrations to specific passages in the text, not just decorations. Does anyone know how to select how the "featured image" should behave in a post, so I can prevent featured images from displaying in the top.

    I have CSS access (customisation update). I just can't find the piece of code that determines the behaviour of the featured image, if there is any.

    Thanks in advance.

    Mados.

    The blog I need help with is mados.wordpress.com.

  2. I think I have figured it out: when I scale the featured image to a size that is within the default content width for the theme (Superhero: default content width 645px) then the featured image does not appear in the top of the post.

  3. ... but I don't understand why!

    Bingo!

    How a featured image will behave is a theme design choice. In this case, the Superhero theme is designed to show a featured image that is at least 645 pixels wide. You can check up on theme details for any WordPress.com theme in the theme showcase. Here is the page that talks about the Superhero theme:

    If you want to customize the theme so that it doesn't display featured images on posts at all, you can add this to the Appearance → Themes → Customize → CSS panel in your blog dashboard.

    .attachment-feat-img {
    	display: none;
    }
