   I purchased a domain from ipage.com but it expired on September 6th. I now want to purchase that domain with wordpress.com, but it does not show that option. It only shows the option to map my domain to my site. It doesnt seem to understand that I no longer own this domain.

   You domain name ( fotosforfavelas.org ) is still in Redemption with your old registrar and has not been released to the wild - if the domain name is released then someone else can grab the name and use it or hold it for hostage - until the domain name is released nobody else can register it - if you really like the domain name your best bet is to get it out of Redemption with your old registrar
