How to Report a Spammer?

    I feel sure this question is answered somewhere, but I have searched both support and the forums and can't find the answer. How do you report a WordPress blog that's being used to spam? I got this comment on my blog (misspreservation.com): "who are you ? your bandwagon is full … talk about the panhandle and all its glitz with the next girls gone wild release … you have NO authority discussing the MS Gulf Coast … you are at best an outsider … ATTENTION WHORE" and the user name is linked to avalacroix.wordpress.com, which when I try to visit it is private with a login.

    At first I thought maybe it was a legitimate comment because it's on my blog page about the Mississippi Gulf Coast, but . . . given that it has so many oddities and is linked to a private blog, I think it's more likely spam. What do y'all think?

    The blog I need help with is misspreservation.com.

    OOPS! That duplication was not intentional. :(

    Also go here and scroll down and you will find a Comment Blacklist
    > Settings > Discussion > Comment Blacklist

    Use it cautiously
    When a comment contains any of these words in its content, name, URL, e-mail, or IP, it will be marked as spam. One word or IP per line. It will match inside words, so “press” will match “WordPress”.

    Thanks, timethief, weird that I searched "report spam" and didn't get that link.

    So maybe I should just put this guy on my blacklist instead of reporting him? or maybe the word "whore"? I still am debating whether the comment is spam.

    I consider that kind of a comment to be "troll spam" and would not post it as it does not fall within the confines of my commenting policy.
    (1) It's off topic as it does not directly address the substance in your post.
    (2) It's inflammatory and contains a personal attack.
    (3) It's obviously written by someone who lacks character and ethics and evidences low IQ, and lack of self control.

    Don't waste any more time on this troll - block it. If you report this and then "let it go" then the matter is out of your hands and in Staff hands. That's what I would do.

    Also in the future don't post to forums on these kind of issues. All trolls are attention whores, who tend to lurk and jerk ...

    Yes. Staff won't take action unless it's a bulk spammer, i.e. someone posting ads or junk on many blogs.

    Thanks Telly and timethief, I appreciate your advice. I've only just started getting these kinds of comments, so I'm in new territory for me. I'll put him on my blacklist.

    They take the Report Spam thing quite seriously. I've reported people with WP.com blogs who were leaving typical spam on my WP.org blogs, and staff suspended them.
