How to use those natty wee quote box thingies

  1. On various blogs I've been impressed with the way quotes from other sources can be put into wee text boxes. I've inlcuded a link to a site which has just such a quote about four lines down:

    souralba.wordpress.com/2007/11/21/internet-gridlock-could-put-kibosh-on-web-30/

I'm not very techie - so completely clueless as to how to do this. I've been unble to find an answer in FAQs or searching the forums.

Also I don'k know how to use any CSS - so I'm hoping some kind soul is about to tell me tht there is an easy and villageiditotproof way of doing this!

  2. It's called a blockquote. So for instance it looks something like this:

your text your text your text your text
    `

They display slightly differently for different blogs, but if you add your text between the following tags it should give you the effect you want. Hope that helps. :)
    <blockquote>your text</blockquote>

  3. Whoops, let's try that again. :)

  4. /nod to cj again!

You can also create a blockquote by using a button in the visual editor:

    http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/09/29/where-did-blockquote-go/

While you're at the faq, enter css upgrade in the search box and you'll find information about what is and is not possible with it. "Easy' is relative but there's no idiot-proof way of using it. HTH!

  5. Gee, I've been using WordPress for a year and did not once see the blockquote icon! ellaella, you've just saved me from my coding misery. Thank you! :)

  6. You're welcome. I'm the queen of the path of least resistance!

  7. It's being used in the 19 Questions To Be Answered From All Over The World post on my blog at the moment. I had used it in the post, and withmalice used it within his comment on the same post. It gives it a nice organized look.

  8. funny....I just commented on this over in dissfunktional's post he mentions.

    Here goes a test:

    <success! It works!!>
