How would I map domain name to wordpress without affecting my email address

    I have bought a domain name from freeola.net together with an email address. When I mapped the domain in freeola to wordpress the email address stopped working.

    when contacting freeola they said that they would need an ip address from wordpress to set up an A record.

    After contacting wordpress they said that they cant do this and to ask my domain regristrar for the MX records of the domain.

    Freeola.net do not give out this information so I am at a loss??

    I have no idea how to map the domain to wordpress without it affecting my email address??!!!

    Any ideas please let me know :)

    okies lolz

    first lets update our GK.

    MX records are for email thing

    A records is for DNS mapping

    Now the solution,

    Provide me with the url of your wordpress blog, I can let u know your IP then....

    minerva09, I see where you're going with that, but blog's and their mapped domains don't have static IPs at WordPress.com, so that wouldn't work.

    paulinemc09, you will need your MX records to properly map your email servers. I'm at a loss as to why they won't give those to you, but you can bypass them by setting up your own email address through Google Apps for Domains following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/google-apps-email/

    @MACMANX: lolz silly mistake... I got your point...

    I dont understand one thing that how can DNS mapping effect MX records ...

    Since you have paid for email thing google for google apps would be letting the spend money go for no reason....

    I guess this problem should be straightforwardly be specified to freenola tha your email id is not working and let them resolve the issue...

    Domain mapping to a blog on wordpress.com cannot effect MX records to best of my knowledge so it has nothing to do with mapping to your blog.. the best can be a bug at freeola/// Whatever the problem is can only be resolved with guys at you DNS purchasing server.

    When I moved on of my site here, I kept my old email service at my old host. My old host did nothing and I had to add two records here in I think the DNS mapping section (sorry my memory is not so good) the two records I added are below (revised to hide my real info) - I also did the domain mapping when I moved my site here - so I am still on the old mail servers I always had. You would need to get the info from freeola.net - I also have a static IP mail server.

    </p> <p>A mail 255.255.255.255<br /> MX 10 mail.my-domain.com.<br />

    Changing the nameservers pretty much overrides all other DNS records. The domain is now pointed here, so MX record changes must be made here to direct mail activities back to the registrar.

    Since you have paid for email thing google for google apps would be letting the spend money go for no reason.

    I definitely agree, which is why I'm appalled that the registrar won't release the MX records. They also provide hosting, so they may be using it as a way to force you to use their hosting services.

    P.S.: if you want a DNS server never ever go for freeola.net... I guess I should blog it... that what our wordpress blogs are all about lolz
