HTML, CSS, PHP HELP

  1. I am going to be very blunt; I am having issues on how to edit the HTML, PHP, and CSS(more importantly) on my ofmerandmen.wordpress.com site.

    I purchased the Custom Design package and when i go to customize my page and enter my CSS, nothing happens. People on the forum post about entering in HTML and CSS..but where do i do so? I have wordpress downloaded if that helps.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You.

    The blog I need help with is ofmerandmen.wordpress.com.

  2. Did you read this entire section prior to purchasing the upgrade?
    Custom Design Upgrade - Frequently Asked Questions

    Does the Custom Design upgrade let me edit HTML?
    No. The Custom Design upgrade allows you to edit fonts and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup, PHP code, or content. ...

  3. Yes, but when entering my CSS in the customize section, nothing happens.

  4. When using the theme customizer please be sure you are using one of the browsers and versions found here http://browsehappy.com and also be sure you have enabled third party cookies. http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/

    See also > Where is the theme CSS and how do I edit it?

    Note there is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we bloggers cannot upload any plugins at all. Moreover, none are need for CSS editing.

  5. Yes, but when entering my CSS in the customize section, nothing happens.

    If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.

    Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html

    If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com please do these four things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache:

    2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/

    3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

    4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

    If it’s still happening, let us know exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/ and also post any error reports you get.

  6. I have found where to enter my CSS but now my question is my themes CSS is not there? I am using the 2010 theme and no CSS shows up. just /*
    Welcome to Custom CSS!

    CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is a kind of code that tells the browser how
    to render a web page. You may delete these comments and get started with
    your customizations.

    By default, your stylesheet will be loaded after the theme stylesheets,
    which means that your rules can take precedence and override the theme CSS
    rules. Just write here what you want to change, you don't need to copy all
    your theme's stylesheet content.

    If you need any further help, ask in the CSS Customization forum.
    */" is all.

  7. yes but it says my theme's CSS should already be shown. But when i go to edit CSS just that "welcome message(if you will)" shows up. NO CSS.

  11. You were not useless. You provided me with some awesome links. I know how to view the theme's CSS i am just not positive as to why it will not show up when i hit edit CSS. Just that introductory message on editing the CSS.

  12. Thanks for the kind words. I hope someone will help you soon.

  13. As do I.

  14. Staff work forward from the threads with the earliest datestamps and timestamps to the most recent ones.

  15. Thank you for the info. Hopefully mine will be soon!

  16. It's best for you if we do not keep bumping this thread so the time moves forward so I will not respond to it any more, okay. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

    Welcome to Custom CSS!

    Custom CSS allows you to apply CSS rules that override existing CSS rules for the page. The area that you are referring to is the correct place to add additional CSS rules. For example, if you add the following rule to the end of that field ...

    img { border: 5px solid red !important; }
    ... you should see a 5 pixel solid red box displayed around the images from your posts. Your CSS rules will either need to override the existing CSS of the theme or you'll need to check the option that says "Don't use the theme's original CSS" and then apply all of the CSS rules you want yourself.

    Your theme's original CSS is not supposed to appear within the section that you are referring to.

    The links timethief provided are great resources, and I'd recommend posting to the CSS Customization Forum if you need assistance with tweaking CSS rules to overwrite specific parts of your template. I have moved this thread to the CSS forum.

  18. When I am making adjustments to my CSS in the box, nothing shows up on the page. For example, the main issue i am having is attempting to change the BODY background color on my Twenty Ten theme. I wasn't sure which code to edit so i found someone with the same issue as me and used the code they used, just switched the CSS color codes. But nothing is showing up.

    In a simpler way, can someone walk me through changing my BODY background color, not site background color/image on my twenty-ten theme?

    ofmerandmen.wordpress.com

  19. When you say "body" background color, are you talking about the white area behind the header image, content and sidebar? If so, the "body" background color would be outside of that area where you now have the image.

    The selector you want to use for the white area is #wrapper. Add this to your custom CSS and then edit the obnoxious green color I used as a placeholder.

    #wrapper {
        background: #33bb33;
    }
  20. yes behind the content. When i added what you said to my custom CSS, nothing happens. I go to my dashboards-appearance-customize-CSS-paste the CSS you have just provided me-and nothing changes..why so?

    thank you for your response.

  21. EDIT***

    Using twenty-ten theme if that helps.

  22. I'm using Firebug in Firefox and added the above code directly to the custom CSS file in your site, and it turns the white area green. Can you try it again and leave it in so I can take a look?

  23. You will have to save the CSS for me to be able to view it in Firebug.

  24. It is now saved. Still nothing on my end. Using Macbook pro with chrome if that means anything.

  25. I'm not seeing any custom CSS on your site via Firebug in Firefox. Is the code showing in the CSS edit box, or was it stripped out?

  26. Can you log out with Chrome and log in with Safari and try adding the code with Safari and saving it?

  27. it is showing in the edit box and is saved. i followed the same path i specified before. I am just customizing through appearance in the dashboard. I then go to the bar on the right, down to CSS, and add my code. When i add the code and click out of the box it says "saved" although when i go back to the dashboard and back to customize the CSS is gone?

  28. Maybe it is possible i am not entering it in the right place or right way. How would you say to enter in the CSS?

  29. No, you are entering it into the right place. This was happening on another thread as well, so perhaps there is a glitch. The CSS is correct and if it is being deleted then that means there is an issue somewhere.

    Excuse the stupid question, but you do have the Custom Design upgrade, correct?
