Hx tag list

  1. Is there a reference for which head tags (h1, h2, et al) correspond to what parts of a WordPress theme? is this question too general?

The blog I need help with is gigskool.wordpress.com.

  2. You may want to look at this article about designing headings: http://codex.wordpress.org/Designing_Headings

My understanding is that Theme developers are free to use heading tags for different purposes, but this will give you an idea of how they can be used.

If you are working with a specific theme and trying to figure out which tags correspond to which parts of the theme, I recommend using a tool like Firebug to look at the code behind the site.

  3. Most theme developers don't create references like that because it's easy to look up with browser tools, or with an add-on such as Firebug like expattranslator mentioned. You have to be able to read HTML to figure out the references, but if you're just starting out don't worry because you learn as you go!

To use your browser tools, first make sure you are using the latest stable version of whatever browser you choose:
    http://browsehappy.com/

Next, right-click on an element on the page and select "Inspect Element." You should see a panel show up with the HTML for whatever you just right-clicked highlighted and all of the CSS rules that apply to that HTML. Click on the different HTML lines, and the CSS will update too. It's a great way to learn what CSS rules to use if you want to change something.
