I am trying to embed video in the post - no go.

    Hi folks.

    I googled "embedding video wordpress" and I got several hits - some plugins and stuff but I would like to embed video using the old fashion code like it's mentioned here for example:

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/embedding-video?replies=12

    so it would look like this:

    <embed SRC=http://andrzejl.cyryl.net/PCLinuxOS/VIDEOS/Old/PCLinuxOS%202009%20MiniMe%20KDE%203%20Promotional%20Video%20VirtualBox%20Background%20Music%20PeerGynt%20Lobogris%20-%20To%20Cross%20the%20Line.avi WIDTH=400 HEIGHT=300 AUTOPLAY=false CONTROLLER=true LOOP=false ></embed>

    Now if I use this code mentioned above and press publish - the code vanishes and the post is blank. What is happening?

    I do not want to use Youtube or Vimeo to upload the video. I have video uploaded to my own hosting - it works fine - all I need is to embed the video in the post using some html / bbc code so it plays in a small player instead of being downloaded.

    The VideoPress upgrade allows you to upload videos from your computer for hosting and playback directly within your blog (or on another site you can designate). Once you purchase it, you can upload a video file to your WordPress.com site with the Add Media button, or to the Media Library.

    No way... I am not gonna pay for something that I already have. I have the space / domain where I am uploading my files. All I need is to embed my already hosted videos in the blog post. Is this possible or is it another "marketing" smartness that only allows the videopress hosted files to be embedded?

    These are the video embeds that are supported > http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/
    If you upload your video to youtube then you can embed it.
