I can't run the FundRazr widget.

  1. I am trying to raise donations in order to keep my site online and have signed up with FundRazr, since it goes through Facebook. I can't install the widget that FundRazr has on my WordPress site as it won't take the code when I use the Text feature. Is there another way I can get the embed on my site? It's really ridiculous that I can't raise money to keep my own site going, and worse, I stand to lose the entire archive the site is based on.

The blog I need help with is pastdaily.com.

  2. Hi there. Does the FundRazr code you are trying to use have some of the following: JavaScript, Flash, iframe, form, or input tags? If it does, then that code won't work, because we restrict certain types of code on WordPress.com for security reasons.

You have other options, though. You can link to your FundRazr page through a Custom Menu link or sidebarImage Widget, for example. You can also add PayPal Donate button.

I stand to lose the entire archive the site is based on.

I'm not sure I am following you here, what do you mean by losing your archive? Please note that your site will remain available, with all its content and media, at this address: pastdaily.wordpress.com (unless you choose to delete it). Even if you let your domain registration and space upgrades expire, we won't remove any of your content, and you can continue using pastdaily.wordpress.com for free.

  3. Well, nice try but . . . incidentally, you can't use the PayPal donate button either. And no, you didn't get my meaning on losing the archive.

Hm, that's strange, we definitely support the Paypal Donate button on WordPress.com. Did you have a chance to check the support article here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/ ? Be sure you select the code for email (step #6). If either the process or the code is not working for you, could you please let me know up to which step you are able to get to, or, if the created code is not working, let me know what Paypal code you'd like to embed? With this additional information, I'll be glad to help you get your Paypal button to work.

And no, you didn't get my meaning on losing the archive.

Sorry about that. Could you let me know why you think you'd be losing the archives? I want to help you have a great WordPress.com experience, and I'll be happy to assist you further.

  5. the code and the process aren't working for me. I want to put the donate button on a side bar, but that's not happening. This is very frustrating.

Here's the deal - I started this website as a way of sharing a sound archive I have been collecting for most of my life. Most everything you see on my site comes from my collection. It is costly to maintain and to digitize this collection. I was hoping the website would generate enough funds via advertising and/or donations to make it economically feasible. Unfortunately, neither of that has happened, and every attempt I try to generate some income to keep the archive going, it is thwarted by Word Press who have restrictions and fears and it is becoming impossible for me to keep this thing going. Losing the archives means not making sufficient funds to maintain the physical library meaning the stuff gets sold off at auction. That's what I mean.

I see how it can be frustrating if the Paypal code is not working. Could you please put the code into a widget in the sidebar at the very bottom, so I can have a look and troubleshoot for you? Just to be clear about what happens - you go through the steps outlined for creating a Paypal button, but then the code disappears? The button does not show up? Something else?

If that the music library you've been collecting for most of your life gets sold at an auction, I can imagine it would be heart-breaking. We run WordPress.com under certain Terms of Service, and it while it has tons of great features, it cannot be everything to everyone. I see that you have WordAds enabled and some traction there. In additional to figuring out the Paypal Donate button, something that would help is growing the traffic to your site so that you can grow your advertising revenues. We have some tips on getting more views and traffic here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-more-views-and-traffic/
