I need help my brain hurts - Email, DNS, Yahoo, A record, IPS...

  1. All I want to is be able to use my email address and domain name.

OK, I'm not a tech savy when it comes to these so please be be patient. I set up a blog no prob. then I wanted to use my domain name http://www.woodlandchic.net as the blog address. I followed the directions on the WP site regarding Domain Mapping. It worked great.

But then I wasn't able to get my emails. So I called Yahoo who hosts the email They told me that I had to switch the DNS back to Yahoo instead of the WP one. Then input my WP blog IP address into the A record? Then it should work. ( I emailed WP support but I'm currently awaiting a reply)

Then I read that if I could get the MX ? records setting? then I could just use that in the settings. BUT then Yahoo said that they have dynamic MX and that it would work for awhile but then stop.

However, now I read see that I need to get sign up for something called Google Apps?
So now I'm really confused, Word Press gives directions, Yahoo is telling me something different, then I read something else.

    Can anyone help?
What is the easiest way to get use my domain name and use my email.

The blog I need help with is woodlandchic.net.

  2. WordPress.com does not provide email service for those with domains. The alternative is Google Apps and the instructions are found here > Setting Up Email with Google Apps
    Hope this helps.

  3. Ok I'll give it a try. I switch back the DNS as per wordpress domain mapping and sign up for google Apps. Thanks for your help.

I just hate it when each company is telling you something different. Who knows who to believe. Plus now I have to have 3 companies involved! grr

    Thanks for your help. :-)

  4. This email things from wordpress has been making me crazy to. I also have a domain from wordpress.com, http://www.anindefinitenumberofchairs.com, and now I want to make the email [email redacted], how can I do that? And is it possible that I can download this mail using the Apple mail app?

  5. @anindefinitenumberofchairs
As I said above WordPress.com does not provide email service for those with domains. The alternative is Google Apps and the instructions are found here > Setting Up Email with Google Apps

  6. And is it possible that I can download this mail using the Apple mail app?

I'm sorry I don't have an answer to that. Hopefully another Volunteer or Staff will reply to you.

  7. Guess I have to fight on with the google app, but the solution they offer there is by far easy to set up and I was hoping for an better solution. In general I find it strange not to have full control over the domain when I bought it, guesss that bying domain outside wordpress is the best solution.

  8. I'm sorry the solution you wanted is not available.
