I paid, so why can't I edit?

  1. So I paid the $15 bucks to be able to edit and personalize my blog. I really would like it to look different, but I can't do it! Is that how it works? Did I only pay for color and font changes? I don't like any of the layouts and when I found one online that I did like (expect for colors and such) the CSS editor won't except it. I hit the "start from scratch" button, but to no avail. I'm frustrated and feel like I gave away my money for nothing. If I can't change it the way I want then I'll just stick with blogger ~ they don't charge me and I can do anything I want. Please tell me that I am wrong and that I don't just don't get it. Please tell me that my $15 will allow me to change it the exact why I want. Please HELP!

  2. Your $15 will allow you to change it exactly the way you want IF YOU ARE FLUENT IN CSS CODING FROM SCRATCH. It will NOT allow you to paste in a theme you found elsewhere on the web, which is why staff is very clear that there is no support for it and you shouldn't buy it unless you already know what you're doing with CSS.

Copy/pasting isn't editing. Editing is changing sidebar widths by pixels, adding different background images, moving headers to vertical instead of horizontal, things like that. One at a time.

You can contact staff and ask for your money back if you're not up for learning CSS coding itself. If you just want to copy/paste, you want either an off-WP.com blog or one of the winners of the Sandbox contest in this thread:

And you should read this as well:

  3. Did you read the sticky threads at the top of the CSS customization forum? They will give you a good idea of exactly what is and isn't possible with CSS. Generally, if you know what you're doing with the CSS, you should be able to customize it as much as you want.

  4. OK~ I'm learning, and now I know that I didn't know as much as I was hoping. I originally tired just changing size, color and such but my changes wouldn't stick. For example I like the layout of the Digg 3 but wanted the header image bigger, but no matter how I change it it won't actually do it. I don't want the tags, but I couldn't get rid of them. So frustrating and I feel like fool.

  5. What would be useful is a link to your blog. And please consider linking your user name to your blog as explained in the sticky at the top of the forum:

Go into your dashboard -> users -> your profile -> then scroll down to 'contact info'. In the spot where it says 'website' fill in the address of your blog and save the changes.
Now... when you comment here and on other blogs, your name will link to your blog. If you do this before you post your request for help, it will allow forum volunteers to be able to help you quicker since they won't have to ask you for a link and wait until you come back to post one.
