I want only to purchase the custom design aspect of Premium

  • Hi, I want to customise the colours etc of my blog. When I click on the custom design link in the customise pane, it says I can get Custom Design for £20. When I click on that (because I don’t mind investing £20 to customise the colours of my blog to fit what it’s about) it takes me to the premium upgrade page.

Now, I am not willing or able at this point in time to spend £70 upgrading to premium membership for my blog, but, I am happy to pay £20 (as I said) to do my custom design because quite honestly blue is not the colour for my blog. I would prefer to get this sorted before I post and launch my blog.

Is it possible to have only custom design or is this just misleading / not updated and I actually would have to get premium membership to change the colourscheme on my blog?

    Thanks.

  • Anyone who signed up for a WPcom site from around the beginning of September this year can currently only purchase the Custom Design upgrade as a part of the Premium Bundle.

Since you only signed up today, what you might want to do is shop around the Theme Showcase to see if there is another free theme that suits your needs instead of the one you are using now (Sorbet). Many themes allow you to customize the background color and/or theme header without paying anything. You can start your search here: https://wordpress.com/themes/ Use the filters to select Custom Background and/or Custom Colors.

  • Hi there,

I’m very sorry for the confusion. I just sent you an email with more details about this — you’re welcome to reply directly to that email if you have any questions. :)

  • Hi Rachel, would it be possible for you to send those details to us as well? As you can see (here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/custom-design-purchase-4?replies=5#post-2101430) we are having similar issues.

    Many thanks.

What’s the issue? You registered your username account https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/carinusartcentre on October 14, 2014 (1 week) and that means you cannot purchase the custom design upgrade as an individual upgrade. You must purchase the Premium or Business upgrade bundle that includes it in those bundles.

  • @rachelmcr
I’m not clear on why any blogger needs to receive an email response from Staff on this issue. That’s because we Volunteers were instructed by Staff that any username account registered after September 1st, 2014 could not purchase the custom design upgrade as an individual purchase.

If that has changed then we Volunteers need to know that, so we can provide correct responses in support threads, and Staff will be able to focus on providing support to those with issues that we Volunteers cannot provide answers for.

  • @timethief — No, there haven’t been any more recent changes, and we really appreciate you and all of the other volunteers helping out with this transition.

@carinusartcentre — I’m sorry for the confusion, but timethief is correct. We are constantly experimenting with our offerings and trying different ways to deliver the best publishing experience around. If you’re interested in our Custom Design features, you can get those as part of the WordPress.com Premium plan on your Plans page.

We truly appreciate everyone’s feedback during this transition. If you’d like to share any questions or concerns more privately (rather than in the public forums here) I can send you an email about that.
