I want to add a new user to my wordpress blog.

  1. I want to add a new user to my wordpress blog, but I keep getting an error message claiming that my user name has invalid characters. It doesn't. The name is M A Rose and I would like to make him an author. What am I doing wrong?

    [email redacted]

The blog I need help with is www.mimirosen.com.

  2. usernames don't have spaces

  3. There are no spaces in a WordPress.com username.

  4. Oh, that's easy enough. Thank you guys.

  5. Still a problem. This time I went with marose and I got the same message.

  6. Did you chnage your username at any point?
is this "person" you are trying to invite you under another username?

  7. No. I invited a guest blogger who wrote a very nice piece, which I hope to post this Friday. His name is actually J.H.Bogrant. (Sorry I didn't say that up front, I felt funny putting his name out there, although he did give me his work to publish.) He has his own blog. So, I thought maybe that was the problem. I tried putting a different email address in. I tried rearranging the name so it read Bogrant,J.H.The thing is, no matter what I do, I keep getting the same error message. I wanted to give JH center stage, which is only right. I guess I'll just have to be more creative in how I go about it. Ugh.

Thank you so much for trying to help me.

  8. Got it! thanks

  9. Just thought I'd add, be sure to sign out.. as I also kept getting an error message when trying to add some one also.

Adding him as a 'user' he would of course have to activate / accept invitation any way.. he could accept the invite, let him know without having to worry about doing the work there, because you are still admin, you can edit any piece etc if you set him up as an author. It would also give him the option of editing something if he wanted to.

  10. On the other hand if you are wanting to control that other 'username'.. to use for other publishings.. yes, my problem was I had to sign out first to create new.. hope that clarifies something a little for you...

  11. That username is taken, so he'll either have to pick a different username or just email you the text and you can copy paste it in, using the Paste from Word function on the advanced toolbar.

  12. Thank Sasha. What I had done that worked was to add a third period. I wrote the name J.H.Bogrant. That seemed to work. I did let him know. What threw was the error message didn't correctly name the problem, which was, like you said, that user name was taken. Instead, it said that I had invalid characters.

  13. Usernames do not contain any capital letters or any punctuation.

  14. :) glad I may have helped a little Mimi :)
